Birthmarks of a Believer
“These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.” 1 John 5:13
most people are born with a “birthmark” which is by definition – an unusual mark or blemish on the skin, a skin marking present at birth. (or a cool design on your body that you show to people often when your a kid)
The new birth in Christ is to confess the Lord Jesus, repent & be baptized and be filled with the Holy Ghost and fire. Christians are born of the water and the spirit, born of God, of an incorruptible seed and with this New Birth is physical evidence or characteristics from the new birth experience.
If you have been born again according to the scriptures you will have physical attributes of this experience. More plainly, “birthmarks of a believer”
1. Believers keep His commandments (teachings)
“Whoever says, I know him – I perceive, recognize, understand and am aquatinted with Him – but fails to keep and obey His commandments (teachings) is a liar, and the truth is not in him.” 1 John 2:4 (AMP)
2. Believers are filled with the Holy Ghost
Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit. 1 John 4:13
3. Believers practice righteousness
“If you know that He is righteous, you know that everyone who practices righteousness is born of Him.” 1 John 2:29 (NKJV)
4. Believers do not practice sin
He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. 1 John 3:8-9
5. Believers love one another
Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. 8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. 1 John 4:7
6. Believers have forsaken worldliness
Do not love or cherish the world or the things that are in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh (craving for sensual gratification) and the lust of the eyes (greedy longings of the mind) and the pride of life (assurance in one’s own resources or in the stability of earthly things) – these do not come from the Father, but are of the world (itself). 1 John 2:15-16 (AMP)
7. Believers overcome the world because they live by faith (of the Son of God)
For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. 1 John 5:4
8. Believers keep themselves pure
For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication: That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour; Not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not God: That no man go beyond and defraud his brother in any matter: because that the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also have forewarned you and testified. For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness. 1 Thess. 4:3-7
9. Believers receive correction
For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons. Hebrews 12:6-8
10. Believers endure persecution
Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. 2 tim. 3:12
11. Believers are faithful & true witnesses
He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. Mark 16:16-18
Prov. 14:25 (NIV) A truthful witness saves lives, but a false witness is deceitful.
For every believer;
2 peter 1:10 Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:
(TLB) 10 So, dear brothers, work hard to prove that you really are among those God has called and chosen, and then you will never stumble or fall away.
